Adult Christian Education

On-going Christian education for adults takes many forms at Epiphany. Small groups meet for special study, worship, and/or fellowship. Among recent offerings are Cursillo Reunion Groups (contact Marjorie Lacy); short-term Bible study materials from Abingdon Press, including the Old Testament, Psalms, and the New Testament; Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius of Loyola (contact Deborah Swift); and Listening to God/Silent Prayer (contact Sue Norris).

There’s M.O.R.E. ~ Making Opportunities for Remarkable Epiphanies

[formerly Adult Forum]

Join us on Sundays at 9:15 am for classes, discussions, round tables, and MORE.

Our sessions cover a wide spectrum:

  • Discussions of books by popular Christian authors
  • Helpful topics for individuals and families
  • Explorations of our faith
  • Guest lectures about Christian sects and other world religions
  • Discussions with Epiphany members who have taken their ministries around the world

Here is the line-up for July and August:

July 19: FANNY CROSBY—a Preview! Did you grow up with the music of Fanny Crosby? Did you know she wrotethousands of hymns?

Dr.. Shellie O’Neal will give us a taste of her one-woman presentation about this marvelous musician and woman of God. Then join us that evening for the full presentation! Shellie is offering this as a fundraiser for the Organ Restoration Project.

The Call: The five parishioners who told their stories had as many different ways to describe The Call they experienced.  Each had a strong and touching impact, such that the group asked that the series be extended.  Three others have agreed to share how their Call came about and how it has affected their lives.

July 26: The Call opens with Stephen Randazzo, who was called to the mountaintop of Denali and was transformed.

August 2: Sherman Stephens, called to serve every day, everywhere.

August 9: Peggy Harkness, who volunteered, and then answered The Call to Sunshine Rescue Mission

August 16: Ministry Showcase – Visit with those who lead many of Epiphany’s vital ministries, and learn where you may want to become involved!

edu-minEducation for Ministry

The Education for Ministry (EfM) program provides people with the education to carry out that ministry. During the Service of Confirmation we ask God to “Renew in these your servants the covenant you made with them at Baptism. Send them forth in the power of the Spirit to perform the service you set before them.” EfM offers an opportunity to discover how to respond to the call to Christian service.

Students sign up one year at a time for this four-year program. It covers the basics of a theological education in the Old and New Testaments, church history, philosophy, and theology. Students meet regularly, usually once a week, in seminars under the guidance of trained mentors. The program grants a certificate at the completion of the four years and 18 Continuing Education Units for each year’s work.
