Children and Youth
Children and Youth Ministries are growing fast at Epiphany, with many regular participants. Our youth ministries provide opportunities for spiritual growth and age-appropriate fellowship for those under eighteen and their parents. From crafts to movies, river trips, bike rides, and the lessons of Scripture – Epiphany has fun and fellowship for all young members of the church.
EYC (Episcopal Youth Community) is the group where Epiphany’s young people, from 6th grade to 12th grade, can learn what the Bible has to teach them about their own life journeys, providing them a safe place to explore their spirituality, build Christian bonds, discover their importance in life, and learn to be Servants of Christ. EYC meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 pm during the school year.and at 9:15 am on most Sundays during the school year for Breakfast and Bible. Each month we provide and serve the Coffee Hour on Youth Sundays, celebrating youth birthdays for that month.
Ways we stay connected with each other:
- Monthly Outings
- Youth and Children Garden
- Mission/Giving Opportunities
- EYC/Youth Group on Wednesday Nights
- Sunday School
Safeguarding God’s Children
This online program is an in-depth educational training for preventing and responding to child sexual abuse in everyday life and ministry. It was created in 2003 by the Church Pension Group in association with Praesidium Religious Services, in response to a General Convention Resolution, Protection of Children and Youth from Abuse, which mandates training in sexual abuse prevention. It is offered through the Diocese of Arizona and is required for all staff and volunteers at Epiphany who have contact with children. It reflects the national church’s standard of conduct for the protection of children and youth, and the understanding that the church will not tolerate abuse of any kind, of any individuals.
Pray and Play Soft Space
Kids are an important part of the worshiping community at Epiphany, and we welcome their participation. The Pray and Play Soft Space in the sanctuary makes it easier for young children in worship to be involved in what is happening by making it easier for them to see and to hear. There are age-appropriate materials, a rocking chair, toys, blankets and quilts, and a soft rug for the children during worship.
Children’s Chapel and Sunday School (ages 4-12) meet during the 10:30 service each Sunday during the school year. An ageappropriate liturgy/service is followed by an activity time.Special family fellowship events include a Halloween Bonfire, Advent Wreath Workshop or craft, Christmas pageant, Epiphany party, Lenten Service project, Easter Egg Hunt, Earth Day Celebration, and the Blessing of the Animals.
While youth and family ministries provide opportunities for spiritual growth and ageappropriate fellowship for the children and youth of Epiphany and their parents, volunteers are always needed. Please consider making your time and talents available to our young people.
Summer Offerings for Children
Vacation Bible School
For the past several years, Epiphany has joined with other churches in the community to provide summer Vacation Bible School. We often use the curriculum from Cokesbury, since the programs they develop are engaging, age-appropriate, and based on the Gospel messages. VBS offers something for all ages: child-tested lessons, as well as games, crafts, music, and other activities which can be led by older teens and adults of all ages.
Chapel Rock is the camp and conference center operated by the Episcopal Diocese of Arizona, just outside downtown Prescott. 3-day to week-long sessions are offered through the summer for children age 5 through high school. Many Epiphany youth look forward to camp each summer. Scholarships are available from the Diocese and also from Epiphany.
